Overview
Link ideas directly to Jira issues with full 2-way status sync. When a Jira issue status changes, the linked idea's status in Canny updates automatically — keeping your product planning in step with your engineering work without any manual updates.
The Jira integration is available on Pro and Business plans.
Setting up the integration
Install the Canny app from the Atlassian Marketplace.
In Jira, go to Apps → Manage your apps → Canny → Configure.
Select your Canny account and click Configure Plugin.
Status mapping
Map Jira statuses to Canny idea statuses from your Jira settings page in Canny. Available statuses are pulled from all projects in your Jira organization — statuses with the same name are deduplicated.
Linking an idea to a Jira issue
To link a Jira issue to an idea:
Open an idea from the Ideas tab.
Find the Linked issues section in the right sidebar of the idea details panel.
Search for an existing Jira issue or create a new one.
You can also link from within Jira: open any Jira issue and use the Canny Links panel in the right-hand sidebar to find and link related ideas.
Linking rules
One-to-one: Each idea can only be linked to one Jira issue.
Single company ownership: If the same Jira installation is connected to multiple Canny workspaces, only one workspace can link a specific issue to an idea.
Merging ideas: When two ideas are merged, the links from the merged idea are dropped.
Migrated data: In some cases, migration may create a one-to-many relationship between ideas and issues. When this happens, status sync will be skipped.
Things to note
The Jira link is only visible to Canny admins — it is not shown to end-users.
Multiple Canny workspaces can be connected to the same Jira installation, but each issue can only be linked to an idea in one workspace at a time.
