Translations — Ideas

How automatic translation works in the Ideas dashboard — translating ideas, posts, and insights to each viewer's preferred language.

Written by Canny

Overview

In the ideas drawer, titles and descriptions for ideas and posts, plus all linked insights, are automatically translated to each viewer's preferred language. This makes it easier for distributed product teams to read and act on customer signals without manually translating content.

Auto-translation in the Ideas drawer is available on all paid plans, and requires language translations to be enabled in your company preferences.

What gets translated

  • Idea title and description

  • Linked portal post title and description (when an idea is linked to a portal post)

  • Insight content — including conversation excerpts captured from sources like Intercom, Zendesk, Help Scout, Gong, Slack, and Zoom

Viewer language

Translations are based on each admin's preferred language. So if a customer leaves feedback in Spanish and a French-speaking admin opens the idea, they see the content translated to French. A Japanese-speaking admin opening the same idea sees it in Japanese.

The original content is preserved — admins can switch back to view feedback in its original language at any time.

Things to note

  • This article covers admin views in the Ideas drawer. Content on your public portal is also translated for end-users while language translations are enabled — see Language translations for details.

  • Comments and replies retain their original language in the Ideas drawer — only ideas, posts, and insights are auto-translated there.
