Canny Ideas: What's changing?

Clarity on what to expect when using Canny Ideas

Written by Canny

Canny Ideas helps teams stay organized internally by structuring feedback using a clear hierarchy. Ideas creates a clear distinction between internal workflows and external communications. There are also changes to how Autopilot behaves.

As usual, please feel free to reach out to our team if you have any feedback or questions.

Canny Ideas is live!

All new teams will automatically have access to Ideas!

For team that signed up before May 19, 2026 you can either enable Ideas via your profile menu or reach out to support@canny.io

Hierarchy

Canny’s new Ideas feature introduces three completely new concepts: Groups, Ideas, and Insights. They are organized using nested relationships. This helps your team visualize and organize work more effectively.

Groups are given descriptions to help Autopilot automatically triage feedback to the correct group.

Groups are given descriptions to help Autopilot automatically triage feedback to the correct group. In the new ideas tab, you’ll see your groups on the left side.

What happes to feedback in Ideas

In Canny Ideas, all feedback ends up in the same place, the Ideas tab. Here are the ways feedback comes in and how it is handled:

Captured by Autopilot from a feedback source

This refers to connected sources that are processed by Autopilot to capture feedback.

In Ideas, any feedback that is found by Autopilot is either:

  1. Created as a new idea in the most relevant group

  2. Added as an insight on an existing idea

By default, these ideas and insights are not visible on your Feedback Portal. You can manually publish ideas to your Portal if you’d like to collect feedback on it publicly.

Autopilot actions are viewable from your Autopilot tab.

Shared by users in your Feedback Portal

Feedback submitted publicly remains public in the Feedback Portal. Any new feedback submitted to the Portal shows up as an idea in the ideas tab. You’ll see these ideas have a Portal view button to toggle between the internal and portal views.

This creates separation between what your internal team sees vs. what you choose to communicate publicly.

Created by a Canny admin

Feedback submitted via the Canny admin is internal by default and does not show up in your Feedback Portal unless you choose to publish it.

Autopilot does not take action on any admin feedback.

Autopilot

Autopilot Feedback Discovery extracts feedback from your connected tools.

If you are using Autopilot linked to Portal only, there are two modes:

  1. Manual - Feedback shows up in the Autopilot Inbox, to be approved by an admin.

  2. Automated - All Autopilot actions are made without needing approval.

Mode

Pros

Cons

Manual

Feedback extracted by Autopilot doesn't show up on the public Portal without an admin explicitly approving it.

Feedback isn't triaged unless admins are going through the Autopilot Inbox, resulting in outdated feedback.

Automated

Feedback is automatically triaged and organized by Autopilot.

When Autopilot is incorrect, you see public feedback that would not have been approved.

With Ideas, there is no longer the risk that incorrect actions are made in the public Feedback Portal. Feedback found by Autopilot is only visible internally, on ideas. As a result, Autopilot is, by default, in automated mode.

The Autopilot tab is an audit log of actions. You'll be able to see when an action was taken and be able to revert it.

Feedback Portal

To your end-users, there is no change to their Canny experience. Ideas is focused on enabling a better internal workflows for feedback. Your customers can continue giving feedback via the Feedback Portal as they were pre-Ideas.
