How a user’s identity factors into Canny’s feedback collection

We’ve found that feedback isn't very useful if you don't know who it's coming from. A request from a major company that fits your ideal customer profile, or a longstanding client on your highest paid plan will likely be more important than a request from a freemium user who just signed up last week.

A user’s identity allows you to understand the “weight” of a request and deploy your team’s resources accordingly.

You can enable anonymous boards if privacy is a concern. That will make it so end-users don’t see each other’s names when posting on a board. Learn more

Alternatively, you can pass in an alias for your users as a workaround. Canny will simply display whatever string of text is in the name field.

If neither Canny Identify nor an SSO redirect is established to identify users and provide a seamless experience automatically, Canny will give them the option to identify themselves using their Google, Facebook, or GitHub accounts. As a last resort, Canny will offer them the choice to create an email and password combination.

To be clear, Canny does not allow for completely anonymous feedback. There must be a text string in both the name and email fields before someone can post, vote, or comment on a board.
