Overview

Insights are distinct pieces of feedback related to a specific Idea. Insights are displayed within the Idea drawer and can be created manually or automatically. The goal of an Insight is to give your team relevant information about the Idea from a number of available sources.

Examples of Insights would include:

  • An ask from a prospect during a demo on Zoom that’s captured and automatically added as an insight by Canny Autopilot.

  • A user comments on a post linked to the idea.

  • Someone leaves your app a review on a platform like G2, Capterra, or Trustpilot and mentions something related to this specific idea.

  • A customer success manager notes that a specific account has a renewal that hinges on a feature.

  • A heads-up from a support agent that an idea is gaining traction among key accounts.

Benefits

  • Gather additional context surrounding an idea and its implementation

  • Understand demand for features by existing customers and prospects

  • Automate feedback gathering and refinement with Autopilot

  • Quickly spin off insights into new ideas

Using Insights

Viewing Insights

You’ll find insights by clicking on an idea

Or in the Ideas table as a field column

Adding an Insight manually

Canny allows you to manually add an insight. Insights can be created on behalf of a specific user and/or company. Optionally include a source URL, and set the priority level:

Attachments on Insights

You can attach files directly to an Insight. This is useful for sharing supporting context alongside the feedback — for example, a screenshot, a call recording link, or a document from a customer conversation.

To add an attachment:

Open the Insight and use the attachment option in the editor.

Manage Insights

On each insight, you’ll see an option labeled “Manage” that will open a dropdown with additional options:

  1. Edit insight

    1. Change the wording, the author, the company, or the related URL

  2. Move insight

    1. Move this insight to a different existing idea

  3. Create idea

    1. Add a new idea and move this insight to the newly created idea

  4. Delete insight

    1. Permanently delete the insight (this cannot be undone)

Where insights come from

An insight can come from any of the following sources:

  • Added manually in Canny

  • Activity in the feedback portal

  • Autopilot extractions

    • Conversation snippets (from integrations like Zoom, Gong, Intercom, etc.)

    • Reviews (from integrations like App Store, Capterra, G2, etc.)

    • Manually sent text/csv files from within Canny or integrations like Slack

Things to note:

  • There is no limit to how many insights can be added to an idea

  • Insights listed under an Idea only show if there is content

  • Insights without content (like vote only Insights) are hidden

  • Insights that are added automatically have a direct link to the source. This allows you to review the insight in its original context.

  • Insights can be inflated if a user or company is linked to multiple insights on the same Idea. Use the "User" or "Company" columns for this to be de-duplicated.
