HubSpot Integration — Ideas

How the HubSpot integration works when Canny Ideas is enabled — adding Insights from contacts and deals, Ideas settings, and data sync.

Overview

The HubSpot integration lets your team add Insights to ideas directly from HubSpot Contact, Deal, and Company records, attaching real customer signals to ideas on your Ideas dashboard. Synced contact and company data also enriches user profiles, powers user segments, and feeds Canny company fields used in the Customer Requests Report.

The HubSpot integration is available on the Business plan.


Connecting the integration

Once connected, the HubSpot integration has two tabs:

Connection tab — manage the connection and configure data sync:

  • HubSpot API connect — shows your integration status with an Uninstall option.

  • HubSpot Data Sync — choose which HubSpot records and fields to sync. Toggle Sync contacts and Sync companies, then select the specific fields under each. Synced fields can be mapped to Canny company fields for use in analytics.

Settings tab — controls how ideas created from HubSpot behave:

  • Insights → Required fields — mark Insight fields as required when adding feedback from HubSpot. Currently supports the Priority field.

  • Ideas Fields — specify which custom idea fields appear in the HubSpot widget form when creating new ideas. Use Add Field to add fields.


Adding Insights from HubSpot

You can add an Insight to a Canny idea directly from any HubSpot Contact, Deal, or Company record.

To add an Insight from HubSpot:

  1. Open the Contact, Deal, or Company record in HubSpot.

  2. In the Canny Feedback section, click Link idea.

  3. Search for an existing idea and select it, or click Create new idea at the bottom of the modal to create a new one.

The HubSpot record's details are automatically attached to the Insight, enriching the idea with real customer signal without any manual data entry.


HubSpot Deals and Opportunity value

When a deal is linked to a Canny idea, the deal amount is used as the Opportunity value. You can sort by Opportunity value in the feedback view, use it as a roadmap prioritization factor, and view aggregated deal totals in the Total Opportunity Value column of the Customer Requests Report.


Data sync

Contact and company data sync from HubSpot. Synced fields appear on user profiles, can be used to create User Segments, and can be mapped to Canny company fields that feed columns of the Customer Requests Report (such as Company Spend, Renewal Date, and Account Owner).


Things to note

  • Any HubSpot user can add an Insight on an end-user's behalf, regardless of their Canny admin status.
