How the Segment integration works with Canny Ideas — user sync, Insight sources, and using synced data in Ideas mode.

Overview

The Segment integration syncs user and company data from Segment sources into Canny, enriching user profiles and feeding Canny's user segments. Segment-synced users appear in the user picker when you add an Insight — selecting a synced user attaches their profile data (company, custom attributes, MRR) to the Insight automatically.

The Segment integration is available on Core, Pro, and Business plans.

Note: Segment is a third-party Customer Data Platform. This integration is different from Canny's built-in user segmentation feature.


Setting up the integration

  1. Go to your Segment settings page in Canny and copy your API key.

  2. Add Canny as a destination in the Segment Catalog and enter your API key.

  3. Enable the destination and save.


How synced users appear

Segment syncs users and companies into Canny via the Identify and Group actions. These users are available in the user picker when you create Insights — selecting a synced user attaches their profile data to the Insight, giving your product team customer context without any manual data entry.

Synced attributes also feed Canny user segments, so you can identify which kinds of users are providing the most feedback.
