Canny has updated it's documentation for Identify. If you have installed Identify prior to December 1, 2023, you will need to briefly update your installation.
This is a very quick change, and should take a developer just a few minutes.
How do I update my installation?
The main change you need to make is you need to specifically mark all of your links to Canny with a data-canny-link
attribute.
For example, your links should look like this:
<a data-canny-link href="https://yoursite.canny.io">Give feedback</a>
If you do not make this update, then we will not be able to authenticate your users into Canny.
Why has this changed?
The reason for this change is that browsers are moving away from third-party cookies.
Canny's old identify flow uses third-party cookies to authenticate users. On your site, we set a third-party cookie, then when users visit Canny, they are authenticated because they have the cookie set.
By identifying your Canny links with data-canny-link
, we are able to update those links to include tokens that allow us to authenticate the user via first-party cookies.
Do I need to take action? By when?
If you have installed Identify prior to December 1, 2023, then you will need to update it.
Chrome plans to disable third-party cookies by Q1 2024, and roll out to 100% by Q3 2024. Canny will stop supporting the old Identify flow on March 28th, 2024.
This means that Identify will stop working for a small percentage of your users starting in Q1 2024, and will stop working for all users by March 28th, 2024. It's therefore recommended to update your installation as soon as possible.
I'm not sure how to do this, please help.
