Overview

Customize the Canny experience for your clients, set your preferences, and add visual branding elements to match your company's identity.

Benefits

  • Maintain brand consistency across your feedback platform to build trust and recognition with your users

  • Create a professional and polished appearance that reflects your company's visual identity

  • Improve your personal experience of Canny by setting the preferences that help you work best

Removing Canny branding

By default, your Canny portal and emails sent to your users will show a “powered by Canny” link:

Notifications from Canny to your end-users will be sent from notifications@canny.io, but Canny does offer the option to remove branding and have email whitelabeling on our Business plan.

To learn more, just start a chat or email sales@canny.io.

Branding settings

Note: These settings are only accessible to admins with Owner-level permissions. Learn more

Head to the Branding tab in your Canny general settings to see all the available branding fields:

View in the Canny Ideas beta:

From here, you can:

  • Edit your Logo and Favicon

  • Edit your company name and Canny subdomain

  • Edit your company's theme color

  • Choose whether to display your Canny board in Light or Dark mode

Logo and Favicon

  • Both logo and favicon must be uploaded as a square (i.e. the image has a ratio of 1:1).

  • The maximum file size for your company logo is 8MB

  • For the favicon, a total size of 32 x 32 is recommended

Company name and subdomain

  • This data can be updated at any time

  • Changing your subdomain will break all current links to your board. URLs are not forwarded to the new subdomain. Be sure you are prepared to update any links to your Canny portal that were set up before this change is made

  • If the subdomain you want is not available, start a chat with our support team. It may have been registered by an account that is no longer active

Theme and brand color

Theme

  • By default, a Light theme is applied

  • Even if a user has a different preference, setting Light or Dark will force that option in the user view

  • Select system preference to allow Canny to check whether the user's browser prefers Light or Dark

  • To set dark mode in the Canny interface, go to the personal preferences section of your settings

Brand color

  • You can set any hex value as the brand color

  • Currently, the single brand color will apply across both Light and Dark themes. It may make sense to force Light or Dark mode depending on the contrast

  • If you'd like to see different brand colors depending on Light or Dark theme, please add your vote here

  • Brand color will apply to:

    • Your public portal's active tab

    • Post vote count buttons that the user has voted on

    • Post author's names

    • Changelog links

      • Both on your public portal and within embedded changelogs

    • Admin names

    • Emails sent out by Canny

    • The Roadmap, Feedback, and Changelog navigation at the top

    • The submit button on the "create post" form both on your public portal and within embedded widgets

  • The same color applies to both light and dark mode, so be sure you choose a color that is visible in the selected theme (or both):

Portal Home

The Portal home tab allows you to customize the homescreen of your Canny portal (e.g. company.canny.io):

View in the Canny Ideas beta:

Public roadmap toggle

If this toggle is enabled, Canny will display your public roadmap on your portal homepage. This toggle is enabled by default and is recommended. Oftentimes, giving your end-users visibility on what your team is currently doing will reduce the pressure on your team.

If the toggle is disabled, only boards that are visible to that end-user will appear.

Board visibility

Boards that are checked will be listed on the portal homepage. Boards that are not checked will not display. They will appear for users only if they are linked directly to that board or have previously left feedback on it.

Note that this is separate from board privacy, where access to a board can be restricted, not merely hidden. If a public board is unchecked in these settings, end-users with the URL to that board will still be able to access it.

Preferences

The preferences tab has options that are not immediately visible to your end-users, but still affect their experience:

View in the Canny Ideas beta:

Board search results

If this toggle is ON, it means that users who search a board will simultaneously search all boards that they have access to. Users will not see results from private boards where they do not have access.

Translations

By default, Canny translates user-generated content. Canny relies on the preferred language in the browser settings. Turning off this toggle means Canny will not translate any content, and everything will appear as it was originally written.
