Overview
Link ideas directly to Linear issues or projects with full 2-way status sync. When a Linear issue or project status changes, the linked idea in Canny updates automatically, so your Ideas dashboard always reflects where work actually stands.
The Linear integration is available on Pro and Business plans.
Setting up the integration
Go to the Linear settings page in Canny and click Install Linear.
Authorize Canny to access your Linear workspace.
Status mapping
Map Linear statuses to Canny idea statuses from your Linear settings page in Canny. Available statuses are pulled from all teams and projects in your connected Linear workspace.
Project statuses live in the same status mapping settings as issue statuses, so there's no separate section to configure. Statuses with the same name across issues and projects are deduplicated automatically.
Linking an idea to a Linear issue or project
To link a Linear issue or project to an idea:
Open an idea from the Ideas tab.
Find the Linked issues section in the right sidebar of the idea details panel.
Search for an existing Linear issue or project, or create a new issue.
Linking rules
One-to-one: Each idea can only be linked to one Linear issue or project.
Single company ownership: If the same Linear installation is connected to multiple Canny workspaces, only one workspace can link a specific issue or project to an idea.
Merging ideas: When two ideas are merged, the links from the merged idea are dropped.
Migrated data: In some cases, migration may create a one-to-many relationship between ideas and issues. When this happens, status sync will be skipped.
Things to note
Linear can be used alongside Jira, GitHub, ClickUp, and Azure DevOps.
Status changes sync both ways: update the issue or project in Linear and the idea reflects it in Canny, and vice versa.
Using a legacy version of Canny?
Canny Ideas is now the default experience. If your workspace is still on the legacy Canny experience (before Ideas), you can link Linear issues to individual posts instead of ideas:
Open a post from the Feedback tab and use the Linear section in the post sidebar to create a new Linear issue or link an existing one.
You can also push posts to Linear from the admin roadmap by clicking the Linear logo. If a post is already linked, the logo appears filled in.
To unlink, hover over the issue name in the post sidebar and click the "X" icon.
Note: In this legacy version, status sync is one-way only. Updates flow from Linear into Canny, not from Canny back to Linear.
