Canny's Azure DevOps integration lets you link Canny posts with Azure DevOps work items. This way you can associate customer feedback data with project management data.

How to set it up

To be able to install the Azure DevOps integration, make sure you are an Owner of your Canny instance.

We recommend creating a "Canny" Azure DevOps user to authenticate the integration. This way, your team will have finer control over the integration's permissions and level of access. All the updates on Azure DevOps (new work items, new comments, etc.) will be made on behalf of this user.

Make sure your Azure DevOps organization has enabled the Third-party applications via OAuth application connection policy.

Under your Azure DevOps settings in Canny, write the name of your organization, and click on "Install Azure DevOps". Authorize the integration to finish.

That's it, your Azure DevOps organization is now connected to Canny!

Creating Azure DevOps work items from Canny posts

Every Canny post now features a new "DevOps" section in the post sidebar. To create a new Azure DevOps work item, click "Create new Work Item" and pick a Project and a Work Item type. Give your task a name, fill in its description, and complete any other required custom fields.

You can open the newly created work item in Azure DevOps by clicking on its name in the post sidebar.

New work items created from Canny are tagged as created-from-canny in Azure DevOps.

Connecting existing Azure DevOps work items to Canny posts

To connect an existing work item to a Canny post, click on the "Link Work Item" button in the "DevOps" section in Canny. Look up existing work items by name, and select one to connect it to the post.

To unlink a work item, hover over the name on the post sidebar and click the "X" icon. Both events are registered as comments in the Azure DevOps work item.

Existing work items linked to Canny posts are tagged as linked-from-canny in Azure DevOps.

Syncing Statuses

Under your Azure DevOps settings, you can create rules so that when a work item's status changes, linked Canny posts are updated as well.

You're all set! Happy developing! πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’»

Note: The Azure DevOps integration is only available on our Business plan.
