Overview

Themes let you quantify and visualize key trends within your feedback with the help of Canny’s AI-powered Autopilot. Simply create your themes with a detailed description, and Autopilot will automatically identify themes in your ideas.

Benefits

  • Automatic way to organize your feedback

  • Get a report on trends within your themes

  • Filter ideas and create views by theme

Creating themes

Themes can be created from the Themes section of your Canny Data settings. Just click on the ‘Create new theme’ button at the top of the page:

Each theme has a name and a description. The description is very important. This is what Autopilot will use to assign themes to your ideas. A detailed description that includes potential examples is going to yield the best results:

Assigning themes

When a new idea is created, Autopilot will automatically attempt to assign themes to them, based on the theme description. If no theme applies, the idea will be left without themes.

Themes can also be assigned and edited manually from the idea details. You’ll see the theme option on the right-hand panel when viewing an idea:

The theme trends report

In your reporting tab, this report will show you the trends within your themes over the past year:

This report shows only the top 10 themes over the last 12 months. By default, all of the themes will appear on the report, but you can filter the report by clicking on a theme name below the chart to hide it.

Things to note:

  • Themes are only available as part of the Canny Ideas beta. Please reach out to support@canny.io or start a chat to request early access.

  • Themes will only be applied to ideas automatically created after the theme is created. If you have existing ideas, they will have to be assigned themes manually.

  • More than one theme can be applied to each idea. A single idea can have multiple themes.
